SB3

Sheryl Bailey 3

Hailed as a “sizzling guitar goddess,” by The NYC Jazz Record, Sheryl Bailey has transcended the familiar trio of organ, guitar, and drums and raised it to an exciting new plane: “The ultimate organ trio”, according to JazzImprov Magazine.

Fronted by Sheryl’s guitar with Ian Froman on drums and Ron Oswasnki on organ, The Sheryl Bailey 3 offers a new spin on the popular organ trio format pioneered by past guitar masters, Wes Montgomery and Pat Martino.

The SB3 is just as funky and soulful as these classic groups. Adam Levy in a Guitar Player Magazine feature says: “They are so in synch, they seem to finish each other’s ideas.”  The band has honed their telepathic jam techniques through touring China, Canada, Europe, and their residency for over 15 years at NYC’s legendary 55 Bar.

To transport her audience to a new level, Sheryl has crafted an ever-growing repertoire of hip, contemporary tunes she calls “The Book of Bailey,” a collection of works designed to showcase what Guitar Player Magazine calls her “lush and lyrical lines.”

The SB3’s talents are well displayed on their five critically acclaimed releases: The Power of Three, Bull’s Eye, Live @ the Fat Cat, Live In NYC (Mel Bay) and A Meeting Of Minds (CellarLive). “Hard driving and committed” – The Ottawa Citizen “What separates Sheryl Bailey and this formidable trio from the rest of their contemporaries is the ability to ride the groove while never getting in each others way.” – CriticalJazz.com

The SBQ

Sheryl Bailey Quartet

A highly respected, reliably swinging guitarist on the New York City jazz scene since 1998, Sheryl Bailey has made her mark through her eloquence of tone, abundant chops, rich chord voicings and long, flowing lines. John Heidt of Vintage Guitar Magazine considers Sheryl as “One of jazz guitars current front runners.”

With the SBQ (The Sheryl Bailey Quartet), Sheryl embraces the joy of digging deep into groove and exploring the possibilities of melodic development.  She expands her canon of original compositions, aka, “The Book of Bailey,” and brings dynamic and engaging ensemble performances to audiences wherever she performs.

Featuring jazz legend, Harvie S on bass, groove master Neal Smith on drums, and featuring various guests on pian: virtuoso Jim Ridl, Miki Hayama, or Kevin Harris.

The SBQ brings joy and celebration to the traditional guitar quartet setting that connects with audiences of all ages and backgrounds: lyrical, rhythmic, soulful and alive with the moment and surprise of improvisation.
